Artist's Comments

For my final art project. The painting had to have a theme, so I chose 'accident'. I did my best with the photograph, the lighting is slightly harsh.

I decided to explore the different aspects of an “Accident”, how it affects our society and what comes to mind when the word is used. I wanted to illustrate this idea, and explore areas within it such as randomness, timing, and chance. I also wanted to explore how it is used in language with expressions such as “Accident waiting to happen” and “Wrong place at the wrong time”. I kept this topic on my mind for quite some time, and as I thought about how I was going to demonstrate my ideas, I came across an old window frame from my grandparents’ old house. I decided to paint each of the eight panels where the glass used to be. (Some of the glass is still kept in)

Each of the panels explores a different aspect of ‘accident’. I unified my topic and my artwork by reinforcing it with my painting. For example, accidents can be negative, sudden, changing, dynamic, unexpected, and can have a huge impact. I explored all these things in my painting – the entire mood of the painting is a negative one, with foreboding anticipation and dynamic change.

Daily Deviation

Given 2008-02-07

Thirteenth Storey Window by ~twistedEXIT was suggested by someone here on DA who happens to be in the same art class as the creator (that alone I though was worth mentioning). The work itself is ambitious, compositionally developed, and shows a lot of depth and work to achive an unorthodox result. (Suggested by ~rancidpencil and Featured by `zeruch)

AH ive always wanted to use a windowed door, so cool! IM CURIOUS as to how you got that texture in the second panels, its great. Really beautiful, each one has its own feel but the foreboding in each one really ties it together~

i guess i'll have to hire an inflatable box maker
is that an inflatable box in your pants? or are you just happy to see me?
:icontwistedexit:
haha well thankyou!
the texture in the top right panel is actually a kind of modelling paste, it's white and looks kind of like toothpaste and sticks to everything.. but hardens quickly and then you can paint overtop of it. it was a lot of fun to work with.

the one underneath it is actually the original glass from the window, only its all shattered and i put some paint on it.

texture is cool! :D

This is so incredibly creative.
The one with the broken window...and the spilled milk...and the ink.

It's so out of the box, so unusual!
:icontwistedexit:

i'm not really sure, i was looking for something to paint on, and my dad does stained glass and he had these lying around my house
at the time it was really old and dusty and dirty and i knew i had to use it cause it had so much character
